NXT TakeOver: New Orleans Predictions

NXT TakeOver: New Orleans Predictions

Talking you into watching it

It looks set to be another brilliant NXT before WWE presents Wrestlemania 34 as NXT heads to the Smoothie King Centre. Any match on the card has the potential to be rated 5 stars with the performers involved, From the 6 Man Ladder Match for the inaugural North American championship to Andrade ”Cien” Almas defending the NXT championship against Aleister Black. Also, the feud between Johnny Gargano and Tomasso Ciampa are set to collide after Ciampa cost Johnny Gargano his job. Here is a rundown of my predictions.

Johnny Gargano vs Tommaso Ciampa – Unsanctioned Match

Johnny looks set to have his feel-good moment finally realised as he overcomes his evil former partner Tommaso Ciampa. In this unsanctioned match between the two, If Gargano wins, he will be reinstated to NXT but if Ciampa wins, Gargano will be banned from NXT. After weeks of torment from Ciampa, Johnny needs that feel good moment everyone wants to see after his failure to gain the NXT championship. Also, if their match is anything like their match in the Cruiserweight Classic, it should be an insane match.

Gargano Wins

Adam Cole vs. EC3 vs. Killian Dain vs. Lars Sullivan vs. Ricochet vs. Velveteen Dream – Ladder match for the inaugural NXT North American Championship

So much talent is involved in this match including NXT’s latest marquee signings of EC3 and Ricochet. Ricochet having one of the most insane ariel arsenal out of anyone in the business, so will make for a highly entertaining match. EC3 will have a point to prove, as it will be his first match since he released from the WWE, returning after conquering TNA. Killian Dain is going from strength to strength as he looks like the breakout member of SaniTy, being a high flying big man helping his case. Lars Sullivan is just one crazed guy and should demonstrate a powerful move set throughout. The Velveteen Dream has had a breakout year and has one of the best characters today. Adam Cole pulling double duty as he also scheduled to compete for the Tag Team championships. Cole will show why he is one of the best wrestlers in the world. There is too many great competitors to choose out of, so I’m going to go with the Velveteen Dream as I would like to see him win it them most.

Velveteen Dream wins

The Undisputed Era (Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly) (c) vs. The Authors of Pain (Akam and Rezar) vs. Roderick Strong and Pete Dunne – Triple threat tag team match for the NXT Tag Team Championship and Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic trophy

A lot of last minute booking with the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic this year down to injuries to Tyler Bate and Bobby Fish, leaving the championship and the trophy to be decided in a triple threat tag team match. I think with the Undisputed Era and The Authors of Pain already holding the titles, I think Pete Dunn and Roderick Strong will win in what should be a tag team classic.

Roderick Strong and Pete Dunne win

Ember Moon (c) vs. Shayna Baszler – Singles match for the NXT Women’s Championship

I think Ember Moon is going to go to the main roster soon so u think she’ll drop the title here. Shayna’s win will coincide with Rondas win at Wrestlemania, hopefully leading to a heel turn from Rowdy, but that’s far from likely. Ember Moon and Shayna Baszler put on a great performance at NXT Philadelphia so this should be no different.

Shayna Baszler wins

Andrade “Cien” Almas (c) (with Zelina Vega) vs. Aleister Black – Singles match for the NXT Championship

Andrade Almas has been a great champion since winning it from Drew Mcintyre. Almas and Gargano putting on 5 star match at NXT Philadelphia showing how good Almas has actually become. Almas is great, especially alongside Zelina Vega, and looks the part as champion and I expect him to do well on the main roster. Becuase of this I expect, Aleister Black to win here as he looks to head the NXT roster if Almas moves up to the main roster. Black putting on great matches himself, especially that match with the Velveteen Dream.

Aleister Black wins

The Wrestlefriend Podcast Review

Why you should listen to The Wrestlefreind Podcast?

Its like talking about wrestling down the pub with your mates

After meeting Dave at North Wrestling Tapped! in January in which he told me to follow his podcast, I did follow but never ended up watching it until a couple of weeks ago. The Wrestlefriend Podcast is a Geordies look at wrestling. Basically, it is Dave and one or two Geordie guys talking about wrestling together and anything else that comes into their head. They seem to try to attend any wrestling show they can find and report the action and give their opinion on it, making light jokes about it. It’s like blokes in the pub about wrestling really, which is why it is so good.

An example being a little-known wrestling event in Newcastle that featured WWE’s Gangrel called First Class Wrestling, showing their love for wrestling… and drinking. At the same North Wrestling show where I met him, on his podcast he does not remember most of the action because he was so drunk, like most of the other people in attendance. However, he does remember a guy losing his glasses which was truly hilarious, it is the things like that you cannot experience if you do not go to the show, so it’s good for it to be told to the fans not in attendance. They have also attended Defiant Wrestling shows in Newcastle.

They also go through other major wrestling shows, such as WWE, NJPW and NXT. Giving their insight and being brutally honest in the process, saying they should get rid of Survivor Series which a bold statement to make. At points I would say they need to be more marky, just to make sure their wrestling knowledge is right when talking about it, along with Podcasts out faster if they can, but they are busy people. But apart from that, it is highly entertaining hearing them talk about wrestling and what they have been up to in the last week not wrestling related. Somehow of going onto the subject of bum juice.

The podcast is like when I reviewed Nobodieswatching wrestling but with Geordies and not in drag, thoroughly enjoyable. It is great for any wrestling fans around Newcastle who might not know about the wrestling that goes on around Newcastle. Wrestling is getting really big in Newcastle and this podcast can help with getting to know what’s coming around.

WWE Fastlane Predictions 2018

WWE Fastlane 2018: Preview and Predictions

Smackdowns last PPV before Wrestlemania looks set to decide who will be going into the event as champion as all titles are on the line. Here are my predictions for the event.

Becky Lynch and Naomi vs Carmella and Natalya

A match thrown together at the last minute with no really context behind it, apart from Naomi and Natalya having more friends. The faces will get the win, giving them more momentum going into Wrestlemania as the WWE keep forgetting Carmella is Mrs. Money in the Bank.

Winner: Becky Lynch and Naomi

Shinsuke Nakurmara vs Rusev (with Aiden English)

Another match quickly thrown together. Nakurmara just needed something to do so has been giving a match with Rusev, seemingly over what day it is, Rusev or Nakurmara day. When we all know it is Rusev day. However, Shinsuke will get the win with him likely to be facing AJ Styles at Wrestlemania.

Winner: Shinsuke Nakurmara

Bobby Roode (C) vs Randy Orton – US Championship

What should really be a dream match has not been built well, feuding over Roode having been rated higher than Orton on the Smackdown ratings. I still think the match will be better than expected however, as Roode looks like a future world champion. Having him face Randy Orton on his way. I think Smackdown will follow Raw in having a triple threat match at Wrestlemania for their secondary belt. As Jinder Mahal looks set to get involved in some way.

Winner: Bobby Roode

The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) (C) vs The New Day (Kofi Kingston, Big E and/or Xavier Woods) – Tag Team Championships

With these teams incapable of putting on a match, this looks like a match of the night candidate. Their hell in a cell match being a highlight of their rivalry. I think both teams deserve the to head into Wrestlemania as tag team champions so it’s hard to choose a winner. I think the Usos will win though.

Winner: The Usos

Charlotte Flair (C) vs Ruby Riot (with Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan) – Women’s Championship

If given enough time, I also think this could be a show stealer with Ruby Riot never really being given the chance to show how good a wrestler she is. Flair looks set to come out on top however, heading into Wrestlemania to possibly face Asuka which would be an unreal match.

Winner: Charlotte Flair Retains

AJ Styles (C) vs John Cena vs Kevin Owens vs Sami Zayn vs Dolph Ziggler vs Baron Corbin – WWE Championship

Having had a preview on Smackdown, this match to be a hectic match with the talent involved. AJ Styles looks set to retain and go on and compete in a dream match with Shinsuke Nakurmara. They will possibly be more conflict between Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens which might end in them having a Wrestlemania match, although the card does look already filled. If their is a Andre the Giant battle Royal this year, I see both Dolph and Baron participating in it. Their is rumours of Cena making it a triple threat long side AJ and Nakurmara, and also rumours he will have a match with the Undertaker. I don’t think I like either option particularly that much. A triple threat matxh would be a good match but not as good as a singles match just between Nakurmara and AJ Styles. Although, The Undertaker vs John Cena would be insane, I think The Undertaker doesn’t have to prove anything and his last match with Roman, he looked like his body couldn’t take any more punishment. But I don’t see where Cena would fit on the card if he wasn’t in any of them matches.

Winner: AJ Style

The Martian by Andy Weir Review

The Martian by Andy Weir Book Review

Duct tape is the key to everything

Late to the the party having seen the film when it first came out, I recently read The Martian. Both the book and the film are more or less on par of each other as they both offer a lot of humour through Mark Watney.

Stranded by his team on Mars, Mark Watney with the use of his botanist and engineering skills has to learn how to survive on Mars. Everything it seems he has mastered surviving on Mars, Mars always seems to halt his progress. As he had to learn how to create water and food to survive until Nasa can create a plan to save him.

A good read and the book flowed well, even if their was a lot of science throughout it.

Elimination Chamber 2018 Predictions

Elimination Chamber 2018 Preview

WWE’s Eliminnation Chamber takes centre stage this weekend on the first PPV after the Royal Rumble and Raws last before Wrestle Mania. Eliminnation Chamber looks to set Wrestle Mania is motion with the Women’s championahip being on the line and WWE championship no. 1 contendership being fought in the chamber. Ronda Rousey contract is also set for Sunday, which doesn’t look to go down smoothly,Stephanie McMahon setting to get involved in some degree. Here are my predictions for the event.

Woken Matt Hardy vs. Bray Wyatt

Having fought countless times on other occasion now, this shows WWE don’t know what to do to get the best of the Woken Gimmick. Broken Matt Hardy was the highlight of every TNA show when he was there but Woken seems to be an afterthought at the minute. Hopefully Matt wins and gains more momentum to go into a better fued going into Wrestlemania. Bray Wyatt has gone from facing Randy Orton at Wrestlemania 33 to probably just being in the Andre the Giant battle Royal this year I think which shows how far he has fallen. Them fighting in the Hardy compound would make this better.

Matty Hardy Wins

Asuka vs. Nia Jax

Asuka looks to keep her undefeated run going heading into Wrestlemania in which she still hasn’t choose who she will face after winning the Royal Rumble. I think she will switch shows and go after Charlotte’s Smackdowns women’s title leaving Ronda to gain the Raw title later when she is ready. I think this will be a good hard-hitting match between Nia Jax and Asuka but Asuka needs the win going into Wrestlemania.

Asuka Wins

Alexa Bliss (c) vs. Bayley vs. Mandy Rose vs. Mickie James vs. Sasha Banks vs. Sonya Deville – Eliminnation Chamber Match for the Raws Women Championships

The first all Women’s Eliminnation Chamber match in history looks to set who will be the Raws women Champion going into Wrestlemania. The most unpredictable match on the card, but Alexa Bliss is still the favourite. Alexa Bliss being favourite, then Sasha Banks and Bayley come in second and third. The members of Abstulution are to new to be giving the championship I don’t see them winning it. Mickie James has been helping Alexa Bliss recently so it looks like they will reunite again possibly helping Bliss to get the win. This should be an exciting match.

Bliss retains

Braun Strowmanvs. Elias vs. Finn B├ílor vs. John Cena vs. Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins vs. The Miz – Elimination Chamber match for a WWE Universal Championshipmatch at WrestleMania 34

The most predicable match on the card with Roman Reigns set to face Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania. I still think it will be good to watch how Roman Reigns wins with participants involved. Watching the gauntlet match has showed what these men can do and should offer a great match. I think a feud between Braun and The Miz will be started here with the animosity created over the last couple of weeks. This would be my picks to win if it wasnt certain Roman Reigns was to win. The Miz deserving another run as champion and Braun being so over also. Hopefully the Undertaker returns and sets up a dream match between him and Cena although it doesn’t seem likely.

Roman win

5 star Wrestling

5 Star Wrestling Review

February 9th – Metro Radio Arena, Newcastle

5 Star Wrestling returned to the Metro Radio Arena live Newcastle this week featuring stars John Morris on and Rvd. The preshow also involved Love Islands Adam Maxted win tag team gold with his partner. Here is a run down of the main show action.

Rob van dam vs Zack Gibson

The first match of the night had the legend Rvd against Zack Gibson. Rvd did his usual moves including a rolling thunder, spinning wheel kicks and a spinning leg drop to his opponent on the barricade. Rvd looked impressive as Zack played the dastardly heel throughout. Finally ending with Zack getting dispualified for not releasing a hold when Rvd had made it to the ropes.

Rvd wins via Dq

Flash Morgan Webster vs Joey Axl

Flash Morgan Webster introduced Primate to his mod cast before it was interrupted by Joey Axl. This would lead to a match between the Flash and Joey. Flash would show grit and determination but would ultimately fall to Axl through tapping out to the Brock Lock.

Axl wins via submission

Eddie Ryan vs PJ Black

The Tiger Eddie Ryan would gain his first win on 5 star beating Justin Gabriel. There wasn’t really much to this match apart from some high flying monevors from Pj Black.

Eddie Ryan won with celtic Cross

Moose vs rampage

Moose would come out only to be attacked my Rampage. They quickly brawled on the outside until going back in the ring where Rampage would hit 2 piledrivers. This would leave Moose unconscious leaving the referee to declare the match to be no contest. This was nice to continue their feud I suppose.

End in no contest 4.5/10

David mastiff and big grizzly vs The Masters of Cool (Carlito and Chris Masters)

The team of behemoths, David Mastiff And Big Grizzly controlled most of this bout until Chris Masters made the hot tag to Carlito. They would then ultimately win the match as Masters would spit apple in Big Grizzlys face setting him up for a backtracker from Carlito. It was good seeing the team of Carlito and Chris Masters, Masters still looking like masterpiece and Carlito still cool.

Masters of cool win via pin fall

Rey mysterio vs (C) Mark Haskins for the tap or snap championship

The best match of the night as Rey Mysterio seems to be in the shape of his life. A nice 15 minute match which allowed Mysterio to show his ariel offense and also allow him to play the underdog role against a bigger opponent. Mark Haskins putting on a good display also. After many failed attempts, Rey Mysterio would hit the 619 to a massive ovation before an interference from Rampage to cost him the match.

Rey wins via Dq

Nathan Cruz vs BT Gunn

Apparently the continuing of this feud was made because last time BT Gunner showed The professional Nathan Cruz’ behind on TV. If you are familiar BT Gunn from ICW or Defiant you know how good he is, along with foul mouthed. This was a really watered down version of him. He still has a fun match with the current New Generation Wrestling Champion. BT Gunner winning with a roll up after showing his bottom again.

BT gun wins with a roll up

John Morrison vs Jack hager

The crowd just wasn’t into it at all for some reason. In my opinion you could visibly see John Morrison get frustrated at times as the crowd chanted Go Back to TNA at him. It was nice to see before he went for the Starship of pain for the audience to get behind him on one side of the arena in which he looked happy for. The match was good but also had a screwy finish as Zack Gibson got involved costing John Morrison.

Also children chanting you can’t wrestle and boring is not a welcome sign.

Jack Hager wins to become new 5 Star Champion after Morrison taps from the Ankle Lock.

Overall it was a pretty average show, much more suited to a smaller venue. There wasnt enough people to fill the arena with sound, thus their wasn’t much atmosphere throughout. In my eyes, I think make it so kid orientated softens the product to much as the wrestlers did not not seem they were allowed to wrestle to their full potential. It was still fun saying, past Wwe stars like Rey Mysterio and Rvd however, and the excitement from the children for them both. I also think last year’s had much more talent as well, as it had Marty Scrull, AJ Styles, Nick Alis and many more.

Overall show: 5/10
